Retouching

A retouch in which I added makeup where no makeup existed. My aim for this was to make the model much younger and add a warm radiant glow. Removed lines and wrinkles and reshaped the lips and ear. I changed the model's harsh, almost mean look, to a very friendly one.

Brightened the photo and gave it a serene misty quality. More subtle makeup than above. Reshaped hair, chin and lips. The detail that makes this transformation most dramatic is the shaping of the eyebrows.

In contrast to the above images, I went for a very natural look here. Adjust levels, as in all of the samples, to brighten the image. I took out the wrinkles and the harsh reflected light on her face. Smoothed out her uneven skin tone and added a slight rosiness to her cheeks.

A very dramatic change. Major reconstruction was done here. An outdated hairstyle was traded in for this modern look. Terrible skin tones, texture and blotchiness were smoothed and warmed. An upturned nose was reshaped. The lips had a stiff feel to them , so I reshaped them giving a softer appeal. Again, the eyebrows were reshaped giving this model a cleaner, more feminine look.

Colorization

A very natural colorization. I was pleased with the skin tones. There are many subtle nuances that can make a colorization look either very natural or like a poorly colorized image. As an example, a slight bluish hue was added to his t-shirt, giving it a more natural look, as black t-shirts tend to take on this charachteristic after being washed a few times.

Before mousing over this one, try to guess what color you think her dress might be. You have to give thought like this to every detail when you don't know what the original colors are. I'm not sure if the color I chose was the original color, but I can almost detect a slight hue even in this completely grayscale image.

I enjoy colorizing images like this. Again, with no frame of referrence, the housing to this speaker could be almost any color. I have strong suspicions that it is a silver color, but I took it in a different direction with very nice retro-flavored results. Note the natural look of the reflection.

A simple, but effective level and color balancing.

A very bad image can be turned into a dramatic and colorful piece with a little work.
